- We don’t publish literary, erotica, children's, non-fiction, picture books, poetry, academic, textbooks or anything not in English.
What are Serpentine Books looking for?
- It's difficult to define, but something different. Not just another trend following book.
- How different? We're interested in all the things the industry can be stuffy and judgemental about.
- Crime, cross-genre, speculative fiction, thrillers, sci-fi, horror and mash-ups of all these things.
- We need your book to have strong characters, pace, a flawless plot and action. A cracking read we won't want to put down.
What not to send us.
How will you judge it?
- We will judge the book on its writing. This is a subjective process and rejection is NOT a bad reflection on you or your book. Instead, it is just saying that it is not right for us at this time.
- We will not judge or discriminate for or against you, your gender, sexuality, race, religion, shoe size or anything else.
- You do not need an agent.
What should I send?
- The submission process starts like a reader browsing books in a shop. The premise and beginning need to grab us. If it does, we'll ask for more.
- So, send us an email containing the word SUBMISSION in the title along with your title and name.
- In the body of the email, please put a short teaser about the book, what makes it different and a little about yourself.
- Add the first two chapters in a Word document as an attachment.
- In a separate Word document, please add a one or two page synopsis of the story.
Due to the fantastic number of submissions we have received, we are currently CLOSED for submissions.
If you have already submitted and not yet had a response, please give it a couple of months before chasing. We will respond to every submission.
